Church Ramp Sep2012
Well, we had a set back as the Special Order door came in with the wrong swing - I don't care where the mistake was, I am just happy it can be fixed within a week, and we can keep going ~!!!
Church Ramp Sep2012
Handrails are now going in~!! Slow process, but with a jig set up for the angular frames, it's coming together quickly.
Church Ramp Sep2012
The last section of framing goes below the ground, and so I devised a nifty way of supporting the joists while still keeping the upright posts as stiff and solid as possible - worked great~!
Church Ramp Sep2012
The decking is almost done - we stopped short of the end to keep people from "trying it out", but the kids can't help themselves~!! The top deck has to wait until the hole in the brick wall is cut, so that the tumbling doesn't cause any damage.

WHOA ~!!!
Hadn't had the chance to update my posts - been busy, since I took off a week from my "day job" to get more done on the ramp, and we are getting close now ~! Took me about 45 mins to get the first section of ramp covered in the composite

Church Ramp Sep2012
PHEW~!!! Had a rough time getting the angled joists right today - not really sure where the problem occurred - and I was working off AutoCAD drawings, no less. Very disappointed with my skills today, but we got the first section done - I was hoping for two, but....

Church Ramp Sep2012
Yea~! We are finally up to framing ~! Got most of the platform finished, but I was hoping we'd get to framing one of the ramp legs - oh well, that's for next week.
Church Ramp Sep2012
Lost a couple of days with the holiday and the rain left over from Hurricane Isaac. We have half the posts set now, the gutters and downspouts are done, and we start framing this weekend ~!

Church Ramp Sep2012
Concrete has set in four of the Sonotubes; no picture of that - forgot to take one last night~! Here's the holes as they sat waiting to be filled;
...and we had to do a quick patch of the hole in the wall inside for a funeral service; felt it was necessary to tidy it up for such an occasion

Church Ramp Aug2012
We have finally "broke ground" at the church ~! Once the gutters were screwed into place, we broke down the scaffolding, laid out the future ramp in spray paint, then started digging. No trouble in the locations, save for some old roots, bricks, concrete and other original job-site junk that got buried in the backfill - never to pleased to see it, but....

Church Ramp Aug2012
Fascia board is finished~!
We moved on to the gutters, but hanging more than 10' at a time proved difficult, so we didn't quite get the last section up - but we were able to secure it until Tuesday

Church Ramp Aug2012
Friday 24th; Did some painting, got the fascia board framing repaired, and put up some bead board to match the original 3x6 roof members.
The pine boards will be the new squared face backing for the new gutters. Can hardly tell that the new boards are actually plywood compared to the original grooved 3x6 timbers.

Church Ramp Aug2012
End of week #1 - we started the repair framing of the overhang after doing a "trial assembly" of new gutter eaves - here's the original lower-end gutter problem;
...and then the new pine board fascia with the gutter and downspout reattached
Church Ramp Aug2012
This week we set up the scaffolding, and assessed the damage to the overhang, which is missing its gutters, but the downspouts remain. There was a bird's nest in there, too~!!

Church Ramp - Aug2012
Cut a hole in the existing interior wall to drill through to the outside - seemed a little "sinful" to be damaging a church - but it's all for a better future ~!!
Church Ramp - Aug2012
So we got started yesterday afternoon, changed out the shed door and cleared the area for an accurate measurement of the new door's location;

Church Ramp - Aug 2012
Starting a new project this coming week - a handicap accessible ramp for the side of a church in Riverhead, NY. The project has been an idea for 30 years; for me, it has taken 13 months to get the go ahead, but I am excited. This is the building today:
And here's the REVIT design for the new ramp:
A new door will be installed, and we have changed the decking to Trex 25yr composite and the color will be what the company calls "Rope Swing" - hey, it matches the outside brickwork....
Backyard Blast
The old shed finally came down; the new extension was painted, and the space was cleared for a celebration
